What is a snap lock carton?

A mechanically locked base that holds without glue

A snap lock carton has a base construction where the panels interlock mechanically when tucked in the correct sequence. The base must be erected by hand or on a machine, the panels are tucked in sequence and once in position they snap and lock together, holding firmly without any adhesive required at the point of filling.

Where are snap lock cartons used?

Ideal for heavier products and reliable production line use

The snap lock construction is particularly useful where the product inside is heavy enough to put stress on a standard tuck base, or where a simple tucked base isn't reliable enough. Common applications include:

  • Supplements and nutraceuticals (heavier glass or PET containers)

  • Cosmetics (heavier bottles and jars)

  • Food products (boxed items, product kits)

  • Hardware and accessories

  • Products packed on manual or semi-automated lines

Why choose a snap lock carton?

A secure base without pre-applied adhesive

The main advantage of the snap lock construction is base security. Because the panels interlock mechanically, the base holds under load far more reliably than a simple tuck. It doesn't rely on friction alone, and there's no glue that can fail in cold or damp conditions.

The base is erected manually or by machine, but once the panels are locked into position it's dependable and holds its shape under load.

For fulfilment operations and contract packers, a base that stays put reduces handling issues and rejects.

Printing and finishing

The same premium options as our full carton range

Snap lock cartons are digitally printed in-house at our factory in Bourne. All the same finishing options are available:

  • Hot foil stamping across a wide range of finishes

  • Cold foiling, with design variation between SKUs at no extra setup cost

  • Embossing and debossing

  • Screen printing for special effects and opaque colours

  • Digital varnish

  • Overlaminates in gloss, matt, or soft touch

Board up to 450 micron. Because we print cartons and labels on the same digital presses, colour matching between the two is reliable and consistent.

In summary

A secure base construction for products that need it
