What are card sleeves?

A card sleeve is a wrap-around piece of printed board that slides over an existing container or product, rather than enclosing it fully. The sleeve adds branding, product information, and visual presence while leaving the container itself partially or fully visible.

Sleeves can be supplied flat (to be applied by hand or on a production line) or pre-formed. They're typically used to add a printed element to a product that already has its own container, such as a box, jar, tub, pouch, or multi-pack.

Card sleeves work well where the product already has a functional container and the brief is to add branding and information without the cost of a full carton. Common applications include:

• Supplements and nutraceuticals

• Food and drink

• Candles and home fragrance

• Gift sets and hampers

• Pet care

They're also a practical route to adding seasonal or promotional variants without changing the underlying product packaging.

Card sleeves are one of the most cost-effective ways to add a print element to a product. Because the sleeve doesn't need to support or contain the product, it can be produced from lighter board, which reduces material costs. 

They're also fast to implement. If you have an existing product in plain or minimal packaging, a sleeve is a quick route to a more considered shelf presence without reformatting the whole product. 

From a flexibility perspective, sleeves can be updated or replaced independently of the container. That's useful for seasonal campaigns, new variant launches, or regulatory updates where only the text needs to change.

Our card sleeves are digitally printed in-house at our Bourne factory. As with all our cartons and labels, the same premium finishing options are available:

• Hot foil stamping

• Cold foiling

• Embossing and debossing

• Screen printing

• Digital varnish

• Overlaminates in gloss, matt, or soft touch

Because we print on the same digital presses as our labels, colour matching between a card sleeve and a self-adhesive label on the same product is straightforward.
